All site data entered into ESdat either needs to be, or has the option to be, associated with a Location via the specification of a Location Code.  Whenever data is associated with a Location Code the outputs through ESdat match that data with the co-ordinates and other information associated with that Location Code in the "Locations" table.

It is not possible to enter data into ESdat for a Location that is not listed in the "Locations" table, although whenever entering data (such as Chemistry Samples) the Location can normally be automatically inserted into the Location table  by selecting the "Create Missing Parent Records" import option.

Co-ordinates for locations can be imported by:

using the "Import" menu
used if importing a list of locations and co-ordinates, such as from a surveyor

clicking on the map in ESdat
used if you know the approximate location, and have a basemap
