Export to WinLog4

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

To use the features internal to WinLog4 (Such as construction of logs) it is necessary to have a licensed copy of WinLog.  WinLog is produced by GAEA Technology (www.gaea.ca).   If requesting a trial or purchasing be sure to mention it is for the ESdat link, this will provide us with more scope for improving software collaboration.

ESdat exports data from its' data tables to WinLog.  All borehole data is exported in the one export, and users can select the relevant boreholes within WinLog.  ESdat also exports the co-ordinates for display on the WinLog map.

Transfering Borehole Data from ESdat to WinLog

For ESdat data to be viewed in WinLog it is necessary to enter borehole data into ESdat rather than WinLog.  Borehole and Sample data is exported from ESdat to WinLog by clicking the "Send Data to WinLog button".   Information about importing borehole data into ESdat is available here.

Editing WinLog Data

It may be necessary to make minor edits in WinLog to obtain descriptive text in the preferred place on the log, however, any editing of data content should be done in ESdat and the data re-exported to WinLog.  Any changes in WinLog cannot be automatically migrated back to the ESdat database.

If you have edited some data and want to repopulate WinLog you should use the "Overwrite" option available in the ESdat export.

WinLog Borehole Templates

All custom templates should be stored in a network location (not as a modification under c:\program files\esdat).  See the section on templates for further general information on templates.

ESdat automatically displays data in WinLog using one of three templates that are provided with ESdat.  These templates (called ESdat Template 1,2,3) can be edited to produce your desired report.  Additional user defined templates can be added by editing the file "WinLog_Templates.txt".

Depth Units

ESdat is not able to alter the input depth units for the WinLog templates.  Therefore, prior to printing the data you should check that the WinLog template is using the correct input units (meters or feet).  This is achieved by opening the template in WinLog, clicking in the "Depth" column, clicking "Customise Column", changing the input units, then saving the changes.

WinLog Projects & Database Locations

ESdat refers to the WinLog "Main Database" for the location of Winlog Project database.  If the database isn't in WinLog then the user is prompted in ESdat for the new location.  The path of the WinLog database once set cannot be changed from ESdat.  The change needs to be done in WinLog.
